pull the inlet side down, see if there is any shaft play either left and right or in and out, expect a TINY bit of play, but you will know what too much play feels like.

normally turbos dont leak enough to notice all the time, they normally only blow blue smoke when the car has been driven then shut off for a while then when its re started it blows smoke.

is the turbo xspower?

Xspower are crap turbo's..
If its a Master Power its quite a good turbo..
White smoke is a sign of water or carbon build up comeing away from exhaust.. Yes shaft play is what to check..
