nice list you have there... im just not happy with alpines $$$ after the headunit i need to buy extra things (most over $100) to get
- steering wheel contol compatability
- rca input
- bluetooth
- usb conection

i just think for the money i paid they should be standard features...

also with the ipod function once i select a song i cant just go back and view the last playlist (like when you press menu on an ipod) i have to start from "Album, Artist,Playlist" section even if i just wont the next album of the same artist

Actually all alpines have input and have had for five years via ai-net which is their own version may not be as easy as rca but is apparently a better connection and i think their 2008 range of decks come with bluetooth and usb connection (im not too sure though) either way all you'd have to do is buy a $1.50 usb to 3.5mm jack converter cable and run it that way

So lets just if I was going to get the Alpine unit...
I would have to buy 3 of these ai-net to RCA converters? (15$ each on ebay)

<a href="http://i16.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/ag/d6/6eea_1.JPG"><img src="http://i16.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/ag/d6/6eea_1.JPG"></a>

How many RCA's preouts do I need? I will need one set to go to the amp to run the sub. The other 2 RCA preout sets go to the speakers? Atm I just have the 5x7s hooked up to the factory wiring, would I have to rewire them?

And what do you have to buy for the USB connection to work?

as far as i know mine only has two ai-net connection... so if i had a stacker or something i would have to unplug the aux connection...

After finding this Pioneer deck, DEH-P6050UB on Ebay brand new for $310 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2008-Pioneer-DEH ... 240%3A1308) my mind is basically made up.

All of the other decks which I had been looking at were simmilar prices but this model rather than having the 2 line display it has the 'Dot-Matrix OEL display'. I'm hoping I can find a shop with simmilar prices rather than buying it off ebay.

the alpine unit has 3 sets of rca preouts on the deck standard so no need for that the only thing you'd have to buy is a 3.5mm jack to usb connector if it doesn't have usb on it already, but it comes with ipod cable so if using it with an ipod it will do everything you want straight out of the box

Exactly Denim your confusing yourself - the alpine unit will aready have the RCA pre-outs allowing you to connect however many is needed by your amp (depending on how many channels etc used and in what way - eg: front/sub etc)....if the speakers are directly connected to the headunit already and not to the amp then it will be a straight cut over from old headunit to the new one using the existing stereo harness.

Then as void has said if you only need to connect one USB device at a time then purcase one 3.5mm to usb convertor cable...and you shouldnt need the RCAs

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys. As soon as I arrive back in Australia (Just about to catch a plane from Frankfurt) I`ll head down to JB, Autobarn and Super cheap and see if they have any sales going.

Well after a trip down to JB and Autobarn I managed to get both stores to price match against each other until I got the price down to $320. The model I'm getting is the Pioneer DEH-P6050UB, but I have to wait until Thursday for it to be ordered in :(.

In the meantime I went down to JB again and bought the Aerpro Wiring Harness and the AU Pocket to fill in the space from installing a Single Din. Lucky for me one of my good mates who just got a job at JB was working so I got both for only $18! I was happy considering Super Cheap wanted $18 for just the wiring harness and another $20 for a Universal pocket.
