Well yes and no mate, I have a lane atm but plan to get a ute for work. I wanted to get an au xr8 but have been thinking about just getting an xl ute and modding it

fairlane and fairmont dash are the same. From the b-pillar back the bodys are different. Will fit in no problems though

I'll keep my $1800 AUII XLS which in my opinion is in better condition than some of the dreaming 15 grand AU XR's I've seen out there.

Quit your bragging! :(

Im talking about the whole thing mate so when your sitting in the ute and facing forward, you feel like your in a fairlane, id say buying a $1800 ute and a written off lane would be cheaper than a xr ute

Particularly if you go ex taxi.
Along with vct, could probably just about afford to rebuild it and put the vct engine in , and potentially an xr nose job, now that'd be a nice ute.

Hell you could even sell off the irs a** if your lucky, and recoup a chunk.

Yeah its possible to do, If i but a XL ute it could sit for a rew months while i mod it as i can still use the Lane.

The onley reason i have thorght about this is i cant find many if any XR utes advertised in SA ATM.

Thanks everyone for replying and your knowledge.

ive thought about doing this to my xl ute. but i settled with the cluster instead, to big of a job for a daily driver. but i has to chop and change a few wires in the back and get the third plug from the fairmont ghia cluster... and for some reason, (me being lazy and having not changed the wire yet) when right door is open, the front right icon on the dash opens, and when left door is open, the rear left icon opens on the dash.
good luck with it, should be awesome when its finished
