Hi, Just curious ive got a EL tickford motor with a dizzy and was wondering could i slip it in an EF Fairmont using a coil pack set up etc. What issues would i have? Is it possible? Id have to get an EF tickford ECU to match as the pins are different from EL to EF. Yes??

Thanks

Yeah, EF and EL ECU's are different, but you can still retain your stock EF ECU, you don't necessarily have to use a tickford computer, although it could be advantageous for a bit more performance.

As for the distributor, just take it out of the EL engine and slip in the sequencer from your EF, simple as that. Everything else is straight forward.

EDIT: Hang on, i just read that again haha. Are you converting your EB to run coil packs?

Nah, he mentions it's going into an EF.
The only other thing I would do is put the EL dizzy drivegear onto the EF sequencer/cam angle sensor before you fit it.
It's been reported on here people who've run EF/AU blocks have had issues when fitting dizzy's, where the aux shaft gear has ungone damage over 10's of thousands of km. It hasn't been proven, but I believe it's due to mismatched wear rates on the gears - this problem gets worse with high volume oil pumps.
So if you do as I've suggested, the aux gear and CAS gear are still matched - wear wise that is.

dont you have to set the engine up on tdc and set the sequencer accordingly?

Any manual like Gregory's, etc will tell you how to set up the CAS.

you also need to change the left hand side engine mount cast iron bracket as thats what the coil packs bolt to. you also need to check abs pump plugs as they are on the same loom.
