gtx 2 is 20w50 (black bottle right?)
I think if your blowing smoke with 20w50 theres not much u can do but rebuild.. U could add a smoke treatment or go for a 20-60, or even 40-70 but i doubt the rest of the engine will like it.. Personally im using 15w 50 100% synthetic with no real problem apart from slightly lower oil pressure on hot days..engine has never run so smooth though, and im dumping a au engine in soon so don't really care which oil i use next. Might even throw in some 40w70 and see what it does. |

gtx red bottle
gtx2 black bottle 20/50 gtx3 grey bottle i think that it try using another brand, fuchs/valvoline etc 20/50. does it burn it right after service or after a couple of thousand k's? just use real cheap but still name brand oil all of $20 a bottle and dump every month or so. should see you get a couple of years out that motor easy.

my motor with 250,000 and on the way out i use 25w60. keeps the oil pressure up even though the engine has excessive clearances

My engine has 370,000 on it still original still dosent burn oil between 5000 services still goes hard and smooth as. Like msman said you still should get a couple of years easy. Ford engines dont die. Im using GTX2 as well.

it depends on how it's driven and the service history

We had a similar problem in an old XD that was given a caning and burnt oil, so we tried Penrite HPR 50 which is 40-70 grade. It stopped the smoke and stopped burning oil. There were no "after effects" that we noticed, so we continued to use it, but changed it every 5000 klms thereafter. I'd give it a go before doing anything expensive.
This is an extract on HPR 50, from Pentite's website; HPR 50 Extra high viscosity petrol engine oil for use in older large six and eight cylinder engines especially those subjected to heavy/extreme load situations such as caravan/boat towing or in competition. Equally suitable for large capacity engines with severe oil consumption problems. 40-70, API SL |
