hi guys.
what would be the cheapest new/regrind cam i can get to improve fuel effiency(decrease consumption), improve low down power for towing and have a super smooth idle. can you list all cams to suit the above im asking because i find all posts but cant seem to understand it so i thought id ask as what i want is probably different to what you guys want them for |

the stock one?
You won't improve fuel efficiency with a cam (unless getting it tuned with a Very mild cam as well, but even then would be close). Look for something very mild, the Wade 1636 is probably the most popular/cheapest. Look in the sponsors forum for their prices. If you get a vernier gear with it you can also alter your cam timing to move the torque band (for lack of a better term) around.

as above, stock cam would be the best for you.
if you wanted more low down "guts", then shorter diff gears will help, and make it pull harder |

hard to give you a cam suggestion without a car or trans to go by.
but ask wade for a towing style cam (for low revs) and then get an economy tune |

hi guys. would it be better to put in a low km ed 6 cyl 4.0 engine preferably xr6 or do the head on the current 216000 km engine.
reason for asking is if a low km ed or ed xr6 engine comes up the question we have to think is will the head gasket go. do the xr6 engines have the same head gasket problems that a normal e series engine has. how do you stop the head from corroding or the head gasket blowing on a low km engine. would the depending which is the lowest km out of a normal ed engine and ed xr6 engine give more power alone or would you need the ecu |

its too hard to say. Generally a low km engine would be better, but if it hasnt been treated well then it could do a head gasket as easily as yours.
If you use the AU copper gaskets they are better than the standard e series ones.

if a low km engines treated well will it do the e series head gasket as soon as you put it in. is it worth doing the head gasket before you put it in or do you recon the head will start to corrode.

To save head aches do the head gasket before installing the motor. Heaps easyer to do on the bench/floor than in the car.
