Just wondering, is it possible to change front springs without spring compressors? Can ratchet tie downs be used? I ask as it is pointless buying spring compressors for something I will only be doing once! Plus the money can be better spent elsewhere...

Cheers
RD

There are lots of dodgy ways you 'can' do it, but your running the risk of causing yourself sever injuries should something go wrong.

essentially you need something to keep the spring compressed when you undo the top nut of the struts.

so yes, you *could* use them, but be damn careful.

Good point, don't feel like damaging myself doing it. Still, don't want to spend $50.00+ for something I'll only use once.....

from memory i got a pair of spring compressors from supercheap for a bit over $20.

you can always try and sell them afterwards, people are always needing them, beats having a spring spoinging around and taking out your dog.

Tried supercheap up here and they were $55.00 and crap quality.

I have an offer to borrow some now so no dumb things from me :)

Buy it from supercheap, use them, clean them, take them back and get store credit.

LOL @ FordFairmont - I like your thinking... :)

I now have a set to do the job thanks to fordebgt93. Will have them all done sometime this weekend in time for the K frame with struts to go back into my wagon.

Cheers

I bought a set over a decade ago and i was tempted to think i wouldn't need them again. They ended up in storage for nearly a decade and then i started mucking around with falcons and i've used them heaps. Worth buying, and yeah, double jaw doesn't slip around and is thus easier overall and safer.
