Hi Guys,
I recently purchased another ef with a buggered trans in it - fluid was horribly burnt and stunk! Anyway, today I put another auto in it and its all going nicely except I can't lock it in 1st, 2nd or 3rd....it simply behaves as if its still in drive Anyone have any ideas? The gearbox behaves perfectly otherwise so I don't suspect its a fault with the box - it will kickdown nicely and change through all gears like a good auto should! Fluid levels good, all wiring connected, selector linkage looks and feels ok... Simon NB: It might also be worth mentioning that with the old buggered trans in it it was doing the same thing - couldn't lock a gear...I thought that it was because the trans was rooted, but what else could it be?

Theres an inhibitor switch on the side of the box.... replace that and problem solved

Interesting point, however the new box came with an inhibitor switch so I didn't need to grab the one off the old trans...
Going to have some more fun fault finding tomorrow! Simon

Got it sorted, turned out one of the pins in the 2 pin plug that plugs into the inhibitor switch had corroded, fixed that and all is good!
