I've got a guy having a look at my gearbox at the moment, giving it a good service. He pulled it out last night and called me to say that there's a crack in the bottom end of the motor. He was very non-specific about the crack, however the guy reckons I need the bottom end rebuilt, or to replace the whole motor.
I frankly don't believe him.. I would think that a crack in the bottom end would not just crop up all of a sudden. Problem is, I don't know what to look for. I'm heading down there in a bit to find out what the deal is, my question is, what part of the bottom end is likely to 'crack' if, say for eg the pressure plate in the previous gearbox was fked? Or if it was just a matter of 240000k's worth of wear on the engine? I've never heard of bottom ends just cracking on EF's before. FTM he is offering me warranty on the gearbox, however it's void if I don't get the motor fixed apparently.

Quite possibly, however the flywheel is brand new and freshly machined..
