When i start the EL, sometimes it is fine, sometimes it is a little thumpy, and yesterday there was a big thump. The car rocks around. I don't know if this is related, but once when i was overtaking it was so thumpy i almost aborted. I am trying to figure it out.
I am new to the round engine mounts. I put the car in gear and held the brakes and pressed the accelerator, but the engine didn't move much, it seemed normal. I have spare starter motors, so could try this. I actually visualise something internal, like a piston whacking somehow. I haven't noticed any other problems with the engine. It has done 248,000km and is new to me. Seems to have a decent service history.

bump
My only other idea is if the TFI module is playing up giving a way retarded spark (there is no pinging).

I drove the car yesterday in the heat of the day and sometimes the gearbox was thumping. I figure it may be low in oil, and/or the filter needs replacing. The driveshaft seal is leaking a bit so that could be a cause of low oil. I have been planning to fix all this. Maybe fixing this will fix all the thumping, not that it thumps very often anyway.

I have done the tranny and seems good so far.
Also, i have found dust in the fuel and it was causing problems, and figure that may have played a role in the thumping.
