Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to suss out what sorts of figures you're all getting for fuel economy in your 250 X-flows? I have to say I'm pretty disappointed at chewing through 18L/100km. I checked, and no, there aren't another two cylinders hiding in the bay anywhere... It's an XD alloy head with a single-barrel and 4-speed. How does this compare to others? Cheers.

i used to have an xb van with an xe crossflow in it. same as yours, except a 2 barrel weber carb. with extractors, and a 2 inch exhaust. also, with a single rail and 3.5 to 1 diff gears. used to average 23mpg. best ever was 27. 70 odd litre tank would give me 500 odd k's on the highway.

I got a stock standard 87 XF EFI wagon S-Pac that around "Town" does 15-16lt/100km. Out in the country gets about 14 (sitting on speed limits). 4 speed single rail. (Total km's since new 129,000)
I also have an 84 XE SPac sedan with carbi, again standard except for extractors, that does about 14 around "Town" and 12 on a country trip. Also a 4 speed single rail. (This car has done 195,000 since new). I think a lot depends on the state of tune on the engine, but more importantly, how heavy your foot is...

Are you sure it's a single barrel carby on a Alloy Head? from my experiance XD's came out with a single barrel on the cast iron head and the double barrel webber on the alloy head. Also if I remember correctly the inlet manifolds are not interchangable between the two heads either, some thing to do with the inlet manifolds being a differant configuration. |

Ford had a habit back then of introducing changes to a particular model of car before the new model was released. |

85 XF Wagon - factory 4 Speed, 2.77:1 open diff, Weber carb
With 4 Speed, 12 to 13 litres per 100km highway, 17 litres per 100km around town With T5 upgrade, 10.5 litres per 100km highway, 17 litres per 100km around town Thinking of going to EEC-IV EFI now to get consumption down a bit more... Interestingly, just drove: Toowoomba to Cairns with 2 adults and one child and FULLY loaded with luggage and rolls of leather - got 10.5 l/100km Cairns to Cooktown & return with just driver and no luggage - got 10.5 l/100km Both trips have a mix of 100km/h and 110km/h sections and a bit of hilly stuff Both trips I was "pressing on" to make good time... |
