i just brought a davis craig thermatic fan switch its the one with out the relays the part number is 0401 and i was just wondering to get the ef thermo fans working on my ea did i need that kit or the kit with the relays
i need information asap cheers

i wasn't aware there was a kit with no relay ?
i wired both of mine up to seperate relays with one one thermo switch and one manual overide. if you had two therm switches you could get them to come on sequentially. i'm going to get around to this one day because my boxcar doesn't need the second going and it's a cheaper quality than the davies craig, by a long way, so i want to cut the on-time down.

I installed the thermo's on my EA without a temp switch kit
got most of the stuff from a wreak. 2 relays 2 holders 2 fuses + wires/crimp connectors/wire splicers/insulation/elec tape first thermo on when engine is running (on all the time) - spliced wire off the alternator second thermo is spliced into the A/C so it is on when the A/C is on. was going to wire it up to a separate switch in cabin but couldn't be bothered running the wire. |

nothing good about running thermos all the time.
the second one on the ef/ls is for the air con and 'overheat' isn't it ? or do they work paralell ? i'm a small bit concerned bout my bf going back to one larger fan, but i guess they know what theyre doin

thanks man it made it a little more helpful i think he got the kit i brought would it be better if i buy the kit with the relays? im still a bit confused on how to connect the wiring to the thermo fans and how to adjust the temperature. my car aircon is disconnected so i was wondering if it would be easier if i just connect it so one fan works

The kit with the relays does not provide enough parts to do the job properly in my opinion.
You can purchase the other parts needed from a Jaycar, Tandy, d**k or even Supercheap store. If you are struggling to understand things still, try and get some one local to help you. BenJ

hey ben is there any better docos on how to do it and a list of what parts i exactly need i thought with the thermo kit it would have came with every thing.
also i cant see how to adjust the temperature with the kit and another thing do i need to connect the thermo fans to the ignition and the aircon or can i just have them so when the car reaches a certian temperature they turn on.

You need to connect them to IGN power so they will only operate while the car is in driving mode.
No you don't need to connect the third relay to the A/C. The kit has a knob on the top. This adjusts the temp that the switch activates based on the water temp of the car. That doco I linked you to is actually pretty good. Minimum parts needed are. 2 40amp relays 2 30 amp inline fuses Assorted crimp terminals - mainly female spade connectors Automotive grade wire - need to run two lines from battery to relays, and two earth lines from fans back to battery. Know how - how relays work, where to source ignition etc from If you are not confident in what parts and tools you need, and don't know how to wire it all up, as I suggested before, find a member local to you who can help. I've done this exactly.. EA ghia, DC controller and relays.
Since the fans are controlled by coolant temp, I don't see any reason why you can't just run both when it gets hot.. it can't make it too cold again because when the coolant temp drops, the fans stop, all you have to do is make sure it happens at the right temp. If you get the right kit, you will have an adjustable thermatic switch that you can turn back and forth to adjust the activation temp. Unfortunately if you don't get relays and don't want to learn.. it's probably better to get someone in the know to do it for you or at least show you the ropes. |
