Yep, it's big.

SCT may well be alienating their entire Australian customer base overnight.

Incase people haven't read on the other forums,

it appears people with X1 flash boxes have a 90day period to alter their tunes. After that, tuners will no longer be able to make anymore alternation to tunes in X1 flash boxes.

X2 for the moment appears to be safe.

Buy a X3 box, as it is safe. But will cost $$$. Herrod are the official distrubutors for X3 flash boxes.

All the details and the SCT rep are over on FFAU
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread ... ge=1&pp=40

At this stage, I'd recommend NOT buying any of the SCT products. There are other options out there - Sniper for one.

It's a shame, SCT had an almost 100% monopoly on the market, then they go and f**k off all their customers, for the actions of one dealer/distributor (CAPA).

Can't really help you Brett. It's spread over 200+ posts of to-ing and fro-ing between customers and the SCT rep.

To sum it up.

- CAPA used to be the sole Aus distributor
- CAPA violated licensing terms, by reseting locked flash boxes
- CAPA violated licensing terms, by selling 1-load tunes, where the customer would get a loaner box to load the tune, then had to send it back. CAPA would then reset the box for the next customer - upto 4 times, then they'd sell the box with 4 of it's 5 'lives' gone, as new to a customer who wanted a box to keep (as SCT intended).
- Herrod have become the new Aus distributor
- SCT through software updates to the tuners, have stopped the original version 1 boxes from being up to be updated with new/edited tunes
- SCT will re-enable select tuners for 90-days to "satisfy" customers.
- The version 2, and new fangled version 3 boxes are at this time unaffected. But cost a fortune to upgrade to.

- Customers are p****d because they've now got flash boxes that will become useless either now, or in 90-days depending on who they get their tunes done through.
- The boxes will continue to function to load/reload existing tunes. Just can't get new tunes.

The bottom line. CAPA p****d off SCT, SCT made the choice to piss off all it's customers to get back at CAPA.

I don't suppose anyone from here happened to buy/know of someone who bought the tuning software?

Pretty much any shop with a dyno would have it.

Few owners would by the SCT software as it's very (very) expensive. And there's other options that are available which have a one or two car package for reasonable money (<$3000).

Cheers for that. Didnt surprise me. I have never really been impressed with CAPA, and always thought the gear was SCT repackaged. Wonder if you could obtain a V3 box form someone like SUMMIT or JEGS.
Brett

Herrod are doing the X3. I was on the understanding that US flash boxes will not work on our Fords?? Anyone confirm??

Well Herrod and SCT have banged out a solution, which appears to make everything back to normal.

X1 boxes will no longer be phased out. There's no new ones, so if yours dies, you'll have to upgrade.

Tuners need to register with Herrod/SCT to get their software access reactivated. But then it'll be business as usual.

Brett, as above now Herrod is the local distributor you'll be able to buy an X3 through them, or through your preferred tune shop (as they'd buy from Herrod).

i was considering a box from them for my bf but i'm really not convinced in buying anything from a company who makes descisions like this, if they try it on now, whats stopping them from actually doing it in 6 months time?

in my experience, business descisions, reflect on the products a company produces. they've p****d off enough people now to create the drive for more people to go n start developing better boxes with better support just out of spite.

when it comes to people spending their hard earned, it can become hostile environment.

Well, I have to agree with that. SCT have scared me.

I didn't really look around for competitive offerings when I made my initial purchase. This whole debacle has opened the door to me considering other options.

Don't get me wrong, my next purchase may still be an SCT unit, but I don't have the same sense of blind innocent trust that I once had.

The outcome is excellent - but it's really just a reinstatement of our expectations that were set when we initially bought the units. I'm just not sure why we were forced to endure the mudbath.
