I need to replace the door speakers in my Patrol.
as it sees most of it's time off road, the last ones suffered from dust and water damage.

Any sizes for volume of the box that need to kept in mind?
Or does anyone know of premade gear to do the job?

can you put up some pics of your door speakers?

my GQ has the worst sounding speakers ever and wouldnt mind upgrading to 6''.

just a thought, what about Fusion Marine speakers?

i think they are waterproof for boats etc.

the last guy just cut holes in the door panels and crewed them on.
which is why i have a problem.
Dust is the biggest problem.

i have some Eclipse 40w rms 3way speakers here. (left overs that never made it to the other car)

Seeing as its not to be used for competitions/as a high level SQ system I would say just make a sealed enclosure as big as possible within reason, as its unlikely you will go too large within your door.

If you make it say approx 7inx7in square around the speakers and then as deep as you can before intruding on the window (I'm guessing maybe an inch?) it should be fine and isn't too impractical. I would use pretty thin wood, just make sure you use max bond or another strong glue (maybe a few very very thin nails if you don't think it will split the wood). Then seal it to the inside of the trim.

You don't wanna have it too small and choke the speaker, but at the same time it obviously has to be practical.

this is going to be an interesting setup.

I just pulled one fo the speakers out to see how much room i had to play with.

Well, I have none. There is rub marks on the back of the magnet where the window mechanism has been touching it.

I'm going to have to build the speakers out by about 25mm, make the box as deep as i can (it will be just enough to clear the magnet) and as long as i can. (limited by the bottom of the door.

What would be the ideal volume of an enclosure for a 6.5inch speaker.
model is Eclipse SE8365

We have used them for 4x4s all the time

Enclosure would need to be at least 1 Litre Vol 1.5 Litre vol max
once boxed woofer range would be limited to 90 htz and above
anything bellow may distort for any 6" in a box pod on a door
any smaller would need a 1" or 2" port

I ended up using some heavy duty plastic sheet behind the speaker.
seems i need a new head unit now though, windscreen might be leaking, or a slightly rusted firewall has leaked into the dash
