Is it possible for me to get a cam that would lower my dynamic compression?
I have an ef auto with an au head, cam and gasket, extractors and exhaust, vernier cam gear and 3.45 diff. The reason i wish to lower the comp is to fight my pinging problem i cant get rid of. Ive read about raising dynamic comp with cam choice so i thought maybe you could go the other way and lower it. Wasnt sure wether to post here or in the wade cams section.

i recently had a heavy pinging problem on my car after upping the compression.
some things to look at. -service all filters -98 octane fuel -more cold air -Injectors (bigger, or reco) -Vacuum leaks (was the main cause of my problem) as finding what is actually causing your pinging might be more benificial. |

Are you running 98 octane? Generally the bigger the cam the more compression you can run.

Ive got a minor pinging prob myself. Had timing took out where it was happening (always around 3000-4000rpm) but still there. And i run 98. Tried different 98's to see if it was just one brand.
Im gonna run my EB on E85 to hopefully permanatly get rid of the pinging.

Does anyone know about how cams work in relation to raising/lowering comp and if it is possible?

Just got back from my engine machinist and he says im chasing a unicorn, said it is possible but mainly used in conjunction with race motors and not to worry about it.
I may just go back to a standard head gasket instead of the steel one, but im gonna do a comp test first to see if its higher than stock.

WOuldnt it be cheaper for you to get a J3 chip and just back the timing off slightly?
Or.. .if its that high, go LPG. It should work nice! |
