Hi all
as you can see from the title i've done an engine swap. The new engine is great except i think the timing is off because the computer has no idea whats going on. I want to install an MS2 at somestage because i have one built sitting on my desk right now. But i'm just wondering, in the interrum what should i do? can i drop in a computer that belonged to that engine? will it just fit and work? Thanks guys!

Series III has smartshield, Series I probably has Smartlock. You would probably need to swap ECU, BEM and lock barrel over as a matched set and any wiring changes to the BEM if yours is smartlock. If you are running the VCT without any connections then you can connect that up to the BBM signal so the actuator engages at idle and up to 3000 RPM.

DAMN, that makes things difficult.
do you know when the VCT is supposed to switch?

Below 1800 and above 3500rpm. So the solenoid needs to be powered between 1800 and 3500rpm.
As per the previous post (now edited) if you power it from the BBM signal you can achieve the above 3000 rpm part easily, below 1800 does not seem to gain much.

hmm interesting, so i'm guessing around the middle theres more intake/exhaust over lap and longer durations?
i should be able to build a circuit that could do the switching easily enough between those revv ranges. Do you know if the spark timing is different between the older engines and the newer ones? I put in 98 ron today because i had my suspisions that the engine may have been knocking (hence the fuel guzzling) after driving with the 98 ron fuel economy improved alot. are those engines meant to run on premium?
