I've done this upgrade to my BA XR6, which is Mk I. There is NO WIRING present in the console. The hole is there for the lens, but no wiring or bulb holder.

The lens costs about $14 for Ford, then you need a T10 buld holder to insert into the lens (about $2 from Repco) then a T10 bulb to put into it (got two from ebay, $3 for the pair). Then just splice some wiring into the courtesy curcuit and off you go.

If you'd like to see the completed installation with pictures, check out my thread here:

apparently the plug to run that light is incorporated into the body loom of fairmonts and above. however ive just put body looms into my xt i believe came from a futura and the plug is there. to buy the lens, globe, holder, and the wires as one lot is $33 from ford. im thinking of getting that tommorow whilst im at ford and all the interior is out of the ba. did that console piece happen to come from ebay just recently blueprint? like in the last few days? i think thats the one i just missed out on....
