Hey,
I currently have a 5 speed manual N/A BA XR6 with a typhoon intake and a CAPA flash tune... Would I be looking at much of a power gain if I were to get a full exhaust? (extractors, cat and cat-back) Was quoted about $1300 installed locally for the lot (pacemaker headers)... Does that sound about right? Also... is 2.5" the way to go? Any advice is appreciated

Got a better quote today.. $930... with my cat... he said the stock ones are good... and I can't even remember the brand of the headers but he reckons you just pay for the brand name and they all pretty much do the same job...
Would you agree with what I've been told? Anyone?

Man i would agree with that price ive been quoted around $1250 for a
2.5" Lukey Mandrel Bent Exhaust System with 4490's Pacemaker Headers cat included. So id say you on to something... if it is a full system as above

Also man get the Pacemakers ive been told by numerous pplz there the goods as well as the
Lukey and reback exhaust systems. also ive been told as well that the cat on these Ba systems arent bad at all and dont really require replacement.

unless your making 350-400hp a standard cat won't hinder performance too much.

I've noticed Jim Mock sell both 2.5" and 3"... Would you go with 2.5"?
Would 2.5" give a low note?... I want a low note but also don't want it to give an annoying drone at 110kmh... Do you think the brand of extractors matters or not much difference between them?

between brands they all have a different exhaust note but with the pacemakers different model numbers, means the exstractors are built different which can increase either bottom end or top end

So PH4490 is good for down low and PH4495 for up high?

the difference between is the 4495 is a compition exhaust header but the 4490 is only a standard pacemaker header 4495 has better exhaust flow blah blah

I haven't seen a 4495/4490 but im assuming they are somewhat similar to 4499/4480 off e series? In this case the 4490 (6-2-1) is good for downlow torque, where's the 4495 (6-3-1) MAY not quite be as good downlow (although this would have to be tested) but should outperform it from mid to high. I think they would be fairly similar down low as both have same diameter primaries, only difference being 4490's are all different lengths and 4495's are closer to being the same length - not sure which one averages out as longer. 4495 has secondaries with cross sectional area of 15.2cm2 (multiplied by 3 = 45.6cm2), 4490 has 18.1cm2 secondaries (multiplied by 2 = 36.2cm2). Without going into pulse tuning, the 4490 will keep velocity up which is good for torque, but will pose a bit of a restriction from (possibly mid to) high rpm when compared to the 4495's (to see exactly how you would need to test on a flowbench and compared to the amount of gas released at various rpm's).
In the end there won't be a big difference between the two on a mild engine. I would recommend getting any headers which have mandrel bends as these are preferable, and if possible look to make sure they look like decent quality. As a GUIDE to show comparison you may see around 8-15rwkw from full exhaust (depending on if yours was still relatively good flowing [<10kw] or f**k cat/mufflers [10-15kw]), but on a mild engine only 1-3kw between different headers from leading brands.

EDIT: 2nd quote was Hi-Tech Headers... are these any good?
I'm expecting a bit of an improvement as i already have a good intake and a CAPA tune... I may have high expectations but oh well I more question which is a bit off topic... I've been looking at Crow cams as my next mod, after watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMNcqQmDwfY And I've heard cam + exhaust = good result... My question is would it run like s**t without a custom tune?

Sorry to drag this thread on... but I've been looking at Difilippo Headers and Cat, which are a fair bit more expensive than the Hi-Tech ones...
Does anyone know if they are any better? Thanks in advance!
