Just wondering will the tailshaft of an xh or xg fit onto an e series sedan ??

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the utes ones are longer.

I thought the utes were built on the same wheelbase as the wagons?

Yep, Ute, Wagon & Fairlane are same wheelbase - 110 inches

They are. 2923mm or the imperial equivalent as mentioned above.
