Hi Guys,
I was driving along this arvo and suddenly was having trouble changing gears and then lost all pressure in my clutch pedal... Had to get car towed home and will be trying to get someone to have a look at car tomorrow hopefully... Im running an EL Xr6 Box with a Exedy heavy duty clutch with brand new clutch cable only 2 months old. It appears that something has happened to the clutch cable as is now completly loose and cannot be tightened.... I have tried tightening the nut from the firewall side with no sucess. Any ideas? Cheers |

sound like the cable has stretched or broken. try removing it and comparing with another. was it a good quality cable, maybe under warranty.

Its a brand new ford cable..
Is there suppose to be 2 nuts to tighten the clutch cable from the firewall side? As mine only has one and from some other photos i have seen most people have 2?? |

Most likely is the pedal box has failed, check the clutch pivot where it welds onto the pedal box.

Just checked Pedal box, all looks fine...
Didnt think it would be pedal box related as purchased Mal Wood Pin Kit... So all looks good there... Just dont know why there is so much slack from clutch cable on engine bay side..??? twason wrote: Most likely is the pedal box has failed, check the clutch pivot where it welds onto the pedal box.

check the fork like bit that the cable hooks onto at transmision side, the metal spreads and you loose your cluch, just open the black box hanging off your transmission where the cable goes, i fount this out the hard way also, simple fix not expencive.

idd check your pedal box still if the firewall looks ok
you stated "Didnt think it would be pedal box related as purchased Mal Wood Pin Kit... So all looks good there... " people told me not to do it and i thought the same, trust me you will be changing your pedal box soon enough, mine cracked the whole way around the pin, if you hear it start creaking start shopping one thing that happened when my clutch was bedding in and i forgot to adjust it, was the steel pin for the cable on the pedal snapped. also check that the cable hasnt slipped off the gearbox end. just some things to check if you havnt already. |

Hey mate, i was cruisin round the other day and mine did the exact same thing. went to push clutch in but there was none. lol. instantly thought it was the cable, i managed to crawl home then pulled the clutch cable out n it was still good, when i pulled the dust box off the side of the bellhousing the throwout bearing arm has a pin through a rubber bush which the cable hooks onto, the cross pin broken and the rod had pulled through. i went down to local ford dealer and found out that the whole arm was sold as a complete unit for $180, so therefore to change out the arm ya have to take out the gearbox and bellhousing. I decided to just order a new one and while its apart im throwing in a fresh clutch and reconditioning my gearbox. anyway mate good luck with it. Cheers Bevo

You can just buy the rubber dampener alone.
refit and restake it.

Car now currently at mechanics...
So far they have confirmed cross pin was broken so they have replaced this and also a new rrubber dampener. Apparently still a problem though... So they are not taking the gearbox out... Will keep everyone posted of progress bevo88 wrote: Hey mate, i was cruisin round the other day and mine did the exact same thing. went to push clutch in but there was none. lol. instantly thought it was the cable, i managed to crawl home then pulled the clutch cable out n it was still good, when i pulled the dust box off the side of the bellhousing the throwout bearing arm has a pin through a rubber bush which the cable hooks onto, the cross pin broken and the rod had pulled through. i went down to local ford dealer and found out that the whole arm was sold as a complete unit for $180, so therefore to change out the arm ya have to take out the gearbox and bellhousing. Faulty clutch was the cause of the problem,
Was flexing the whole Clutch Fork assembly, Clutch has now been replaced and all good and the pedal is so much lighter.. |
