Hi there everyone. As the title sugests, my car (I6 S3 AU) has developed a problem after a carbon clean by ford. I have since replaced the fuel filter and have cleaned the FPR. It has helped but the problem still seems to be there in a reduced state.
Do you have any suggestions?
Injectors? Cat?
Im contemplating taking out the fuel rail seeing how much junk was in the FPR and cleaning the rail itself and prior to the injectors.
Car also suffers from what i recon is lack of power till it hits 3000rpms.

umm..... i'm guessing youve taken it back to fraud and told them to punch their service cost up their collective @sses & return my car to at least the condition you gave it to them in?

coz i wouldn't be touching it untill i seeked legal action.

i've been screwed over by fraud once (for the last time) and it cost me dearly.

low_ryda, i can understand the point of veiw. The only concern is if i bring the car back they will find all sorts of unrelated things and then the problems multiply. I mean if they cant get a carbon clean right, what happens when they start taking things apart??
I have rung them up btw, and they have started the game of dodgeball, i would rather just grin and bear it and sort it out via information on these forums.

OK i will try to explain the symptoms.
Start the car - all fine, idles ok, revs ok in neutral, maybe a hint of bogging down, but that could just be me.
Put the car into gear - thats fine, slow speed acceleration to reverse out of drive way all ok. Select drive once your on the road and take off normally and you would think all things are like they supposed to be.
However, at our place we are on a low point of the road, so we would accelerate harder then normal getting up the hill. And that is where you notice it. I would say anything from 50% acceleration upwards form 2500-4000rpm (approximately) and there is a surging (car slows and speeds up again momentarily - fluctuating).
I have tried numerous things to rectify it - firstly replaced the fuel filter.
i have taken out the FPR and cleaned the mesh - the first time there was a fair bit of crap there, and things improved quite dramatically when i put it back in - although it wasnt eliminated.
I have cleaned the TB and the idle controller on top and the air filter - no change
I have since cleaned the FPR a few more times, and last night i took out the injectors and sprayed them with a bit of carby cleaner. At the same time i have ceared out the fuel rail up to the quick connectors under the passengers side firewall. for a while there it actually was worse, but now is back to the original condition.
I have also reset the computer - no change.
So what do you recomend to be next?? I have 4 areas i assume it could be:
1. fuel pump
2. replace FPR
3. remove and service injectors
4. Cat convertor

I'll be watching this thread closely, my Fairmont has been suffering from a similar issue. Seems to lack power down low sometimes and seems to surge as you have stated once it gets going, i.e. when revs pick up to say 2500rpm its like it lacks power for a second then comes back then lacks again, but not all the time

KWIKXR, i was just looking at your pictures and you show you have upgraded you exhaust. How confident sre you that your cat is not cactus? i would say its fairly likely - would lead me to rule out cat - 3 to go

Im pretty confident its not the cat, because i dont have one .. My extractors bolt straight up to the 2.5" exhaust system as they have long secondaries like the JMM Race headers, and being in NZ, its not illegal to have no cat on your car anyway.

Im thinking its fuel related though, i have to change the fuel filter first to see if its fixes anything because i reckon it hasnt been changed in its 200,000km life  . Next it will be injectors, will take them out to get reconditioned and put on a flow bench to test the spray pattern. I'll see how that goes hopefully will fix the issue.

Since you have changed the fuel filter, i would get the injectors reco'd. They could be slightly clogged causing poor accelerating. But let us know how you go with it, hopefully the problem will be fixed soon

will be watching to, my ea has cold start hard acceleration problems (not wot), changed every filter, every sensor but the oxy, last time took out injectors they looked as clean as they came out of the factory n no carbon in chambers. (use lucas petroleum injector cleaner) and still to no avail although it has seem to have gotten worse over time.

Fixed the problem on the w/e. Turned out to be faulty lead No. 4.
I replaced the fuel rail and injectors and pressure regulator and inspected the fuel pump - all to no avail before i opted to replace the leads and then it dissappeared.

Well thats good to hear you got it fixed now mate.. I sorted out my issue, replaced the fuel filter and that fixed the spluttering in the rev range problem, although it still seems to be lacking a little bit of power down low but not as much as before, might get the injectors reco'd
