gday all
kinda new here... be kind. i have a EF falcon that i only recently purchased, it was drinking a bit of coolant and over the last 2 weeks of hot weather the head gasket said goodnight. so the heads off and the gasket was stuffed. i do have one slight problem the timing chain guides are severly worn as the car has done 300000+ kms are thay easy to get?, are there better ones? will i have to suffer though pulling the front of the engine apart to change them??? and are there any links or pictures of the timing marks on the gears if i do have to pull the front apart... thanks |

if your attempting yourself your best friend will be a gregory's or Hanye's manual. well worth the $50
you should be able to get chains from most auto shops. i believe you will need to AT LEAST take the sump, if not the motor front off to do it tho.

just did this to my EL last week...
sump has to come off, as long as you dont break the seal you dont need to lift motor out or remove suspension, etc. i used the plastic part of a screwdriver either side of the motor to wedge the sump down to have enough room to work. timing chain and guide kit (aftermarket) cost $100 from sprint auto parts. this also includes the tensioner, gaskets, seals, etc. pretty straightforward if you've done timing belts, etc before. look for my thread a page or two back to see some pics for how to line up the cams, etc. |
