Hi all, I just bought an ED XR6 Camshaft from eBay. Is there any way I can find out whether this IS ACTUALLY and XR6 camshaft?? The only numbers I can find on it are:
On one side: JJJ (after the 2nd lobes) 62 (after the 6th lobe) 50 (just before 7th lobe) 4 (after the 12th lobe) On the other side: 92 (after the 4th lobe) DT (Just before the 5th lobe) 62 (after the 6th lobe) 50 (just before the 7th lobe) AB (jafter the 8th lobe) Z3 (just before 9th lobe) 4 (after the 12th lobe) It also has a gold looking surface between the 10th lobe and the 6th bearing surface. I want to make sure this IS an XR6 Cam before I put it in my car. Any help is appreciated. Thanx. |

hi
yes it is a xr6 cam the numbers 92(after 4th lobe)=92 model which is eb/early ed. the dt (before the 5th lobe)=ford tickford the rest are more to do with the casting/engine type?=i6 4.0 |

Thanx TROYMAN. I knew he 92 was 92 model but wasn't sure if the DT meant Tickford. I have another question tho. What's the easiest way to take the overhead gear off WITHOUT losing all the slack adjusters up inside the overhead gear??

Well thats a bit tricky..
depending on how old the engine is.. there should be retainers holding them in .. but after time they fail. the best thing to do is undo the rocker assembly bolts and before you lift the rockers off wipe the oil off and wrap tape around the rocker and hla this way they dont fall into your engine |

Thanx again m8. Thanx for being so helpful. I have done ALOT of work on Fords (being a ford man) but taking the overhead gear off an ED is one thing I haven't done. I'll be replacing the slack adjusters anyway but don't particularly want them falling into the motor in the process lol. They are only $20 each and I'm not putting a cam with 150,000km on it in a 400,000km motor without replacing the adjusters. $300 should cover the whole job, including new rocker cover gasket which is $37. Thanx again for your help.
