looks to me like a normal AU head. Apparently theyre one of the worst flowing heads stock, BUT have the most potential for modifications, like porting etc.

It's actually 9sDA, so EL Hybrid, you can see the conical valvesprings.
I would stick with the spare head you already have.

Thanks heaps. You are right, it is a "D" not an "0". Sorry.
That is a good article regarding the standard head and the potential of each. I always liked the idea of having slightly larger exhaust ports which is why I would have liked it if it was AU - also as I can use a few of mates tools and sit there for hours tidying it all up and polishing it etc. No worries, thanks for the quick help. I guess the hybrid head means it is an AU with EL gear on it... May just forget it and aim towards that Wade 1673 I've been going on about. |

You'll get more out of an aftermarket cam then swapping stock heads around anyway IMO.

Would have been nice to get a bigger ported head and then sit there for a day or two taking all the rough bits off and then get the bottom shaved and then put it on the EF block with an AU gasket. All that can wait. I am broke and will work towards a cam instead. |

I just had the au head off my ef 4.0 and it is a piece of rubbish, inlet ports are ok but the exhaust ports are rough as and also the combustion chamber has shrouding on the exhaust valves.
I compared it to my stock(cracked)ef head and the ef head looked to be better by far(smooth ports, clean combustion chamber-no shrouding) I paid $100 for my au head-cam and rockers, and it was perfect.Thats all theyre worth. Only difference i can see between the au and hybrid el head is the el hybrid doesnt have the temp sensor at the back of the head. I actually cleaned the exhaust ports up so they were as smooth as the stock ef head Ive heard on here that ef heads flow the best stock.

Hey Green dude. Long time no see. I must have been doing stuff within my knowledge limitations or something and therefore not needed to ask quite so many seemingly silly questions recently
Cool. I will definitely just sit down with this head I have in the back of the wagon and clean it up good as I can for a few days over the next however long and then have a look at getting it shaved off (also means it will be flat as it has overheated once or twice - haven't they all?) Unless anyone comes up with a EF XR6 head... What is the benefit of an XR6 head? Don't they have the 41 mm port of the AU but on a EF? |

Hey man how goes it?
The tickford head has exhaust valves that are 2 mm bigger than stock.
