hey im the proud owner off a ba 3v v8 manual ute i already have pace maker extractors and 3'' exhaust.
any way its been runnig pretty good til i went down to the drags a few weeks ago as i changed to 3rd gear it back fired and stopped accelarating it was ok after that but the best i ran was 15.89 mostly running 16 when i bought it it had a gas conversion too it has the old syle gas mixer i think it might be restricting the air flow when i run on petrol because the plastic pipe up to the air inlet chushed in. and ever since then it dies when idling on gas and runs slugish on fuel i god beaten by a vn wagon.
any ideas on wat i can do? im getting the flash tune. called around for cams but no one does them?

Hi mate my missus has got a Ba fairlane with the 3v in it, just got it on gas but every where I rang and asked about gas they all said not to put the converter system on them go injected gas something about not being good for the motor all made sense at the time. Might have something to do with your problems.

I have seen A stock el XR8 pick up 7 tenths just swapping over an intake pipe running on petrol compared to gas..

The mixer rings are a restriction to say the least.

Find another Intake pipe for when it runs on petrol, it will pick up as it runs sluggish because of the restrictor ring.

Crow Cams do them, but there's no point doing cams in a 3v unless you have lots of money to spend. Doing just cams alone will give you stuff all gains and your bottom end will not last long. 11:1 compression is needed plus head work to get the most out of it.

is it true that cam's dont work properlly in a 3v because of the VCT?

Id be ringing that mob that have the 12.5 second 3v, not too sure who it is though but they used to advertise in ford mags.
They seem to have a handle on 3v motors because i havent heard of an xr8 going that fast with the same mods(haha could be wrong though)

That was one of Craig's customers from Aussie Car Enhancement, ran a 12.58.

Mods where...
BPR CAI
DiFilippo extractors, 3" cats, Big Boy cats back
Underdrives
BPR custom tune
4.11 diff
3000 stall
Trans cooler
Full weight trim (weight reduction)
Slicks and front runners

Craig is no longer with us so the best people to talk to now are Blue Power Racing, but Chris will just tell you to get a Boss :P

And no it's not true they don't work properly, Crow Cams have brought out a range that suit the VCT 3v engines, but spending $4-5k just to replace the cams is a waste, your bottom end would only last a few months so 11:1 compression and some head work would be advised at the same time to cut some costs late on.
