I am wondering if i can hear peoples opinions on what mufflers i should be using.
i wam going to be putting together a twin exhaust on my NC fairlane, it is a twice a week car so i am looking to have it LOUD and get that raspy oldschool v8 sound under power. The system i will be using is a set of genie shorties with a twin 2.25 or 2.5 press bent system, no x pipe to give it that rougher sound. with one muffler each side no resinators. i have heard mixed opinions on weather to use hooker aerochambers, redbacks or lukeys. what i am after is peoples opinion on what combination of mufflers i should use. i have heard aerochambers are good for that raspy sound, i have heard lukeys give it a deep note and some swear by redbacks (i have redback on my I6 atm and love it) what can you suggest and if possible part numbers and links to video clips would be great many thanks |

I say lukey all the way, i know a few people here swear by the aero chambers.
Try and find a car you like the sound of. At the end of the day it is the cats that take alot of the bark out of a v8(meowwwww) Unless the engine is going to be making 250+ rwhp i wouldnt go bigger than a 2.25 so it still sounds crisp. I used to own a 253 lx torry with a 2.25 twin system that set off car alarms(very crisp)

Its a single Redback but gives you an indication of depth, crackle etc. Lukeys are deeper again.
A duel Redback sounds similar if merged but yes, I know you want that old school sound. May I also add that if you move your cats a bit futher back, you'll find some of that raspiness you want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfBiPhr0asM Last edited by banarcus on Tue Feb 24, 2009 8:32 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

It may sound strange but twin std mufflers with 2 1/2 tail pipes X's 2 keeps that deep low v8 rumble with hot dog resonators ..
With 2 1/4 pipes up front...

After hearing Jeffs Ute, i wouldnt go past Aerochambers.
I have a 3inch with what im sure is a redback or lukey muffler and resonator, it is deeper with the 3 inch though (it booms more) but also gives a good crackle with the foot hard down. Im sure either muffler will sound great though, as you are going a decent set of headers. The headers make a good difference.
