Hello all,
I am wanting to see if there is any possible way of putting a variable intermittent wipers in my ED Falcon which as far as I know never had the option of them? Some of the EF/EL combo switches do have the variable feature, however have clock springs due to the airbag... I have been told that XH utes don't have airbags? So maybe they also don't have clock springs? Maybe I can adapt this onto my ED? Any help or pictures would be very greatly appreciated... Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim
While the switch for the variable intermittent wipers is part of the combo switch, it is actually the Futura (Blue) BEM that controls this. You would have to wire in a piggyback BEM etc to enable this. I have looked into this myself, but don't believe the HUGE amount of time and effort is worth the small benefit. I also am advised that you need the wiper motors from the EF/EL as well for this to function. Cheers BenJ

You can wire them in parallel?
Oh ok... yeah does sound like a pain in the bum... they are just so handy... wouldn't just be able to plug a blue BEM in? or i loose other features? i currently run a red one... which is d**k anyway... have to bang it occasionally to get car to start...

You run an ED BEM, which is completely different to an EF/EL BEM.
The variable wipers were not available in EA-ED. They are not interchangeable with the later model BEMs. Quote: have to bang it occasionally to get car to start... That is not the BEM, that is the smartlock modual. The BEM is a separate module in the ED. If your car is a GLi it will have a black BEM which is a long thin block and sits next to the radio area. Yes, that is your smartlock module, not the BEM.

Ben,
Do you know if the blue BEM is a direct replacement? I know now it has two connectors and so does the red one... Do you know for sure if it will plug in and run straight off??? Thanks, Tim

An EL xr6 BEM into an ED Classic (Base model-ish)?

OK, in case you missed it further up, you CANNOT put an BEM from an EF/EL into an EA-ED.
