on the Idle Tensioner there should be 2 sets of nuts, a small one and a big one, the big one is about a 24mm socket, I use a spanner, turn that anti-clockwise and it should come off.
I have an ED, so I don't think much would have changed on the aircon from your model to mine, but someone else with a 3.9 CFI EA might be able to comfirm...

Take some photo's of it, it will help us see exactly what the problem is, it sounds like the belt itself is too small....

yer thats what I thought too mate, i got one that actually was too small, so i got another one the right part number, but I did not put it on, but now it seems like it is too small and won't come off, even if it was too small, then I don't think it would fit on at all to begine with???
its got me stuffed aye.. |

So if I'm thinking correctly, with the idler pulley completly off, the belt is that tight that it doesn't look as if it needs the idler pulley at all???
Do you know what model Air Con you have attached to that car??? might be worth a pic or 2 of the belt, and the aircon.

Just cut it off. You're also going to need to remove the other two belts in order to get the new one on.
