for those that have done this how did u get power to the LPG solenoids but only when the car is running...this is usually done via the Fuel Pump relay but the tickford ECU shuts it down when on the lpg maps...

i know i could get the power via the ign but this is not as safe as it holds open the sols even when the engine isnt running...

solutions???

In my Impco system there is a saftey switch that controls the shut off valves. If there is no RPM it shuts off the valves.

I completley rewired my Impco LPG setup myself as it was a dangerous mess when I first got the Wagon.

I will soon be adding in the Tickford LPG ECU myself, and look forward to what benefits it may bring.

Talk to your LPG mechanic about the safety switch.

You could use a vacume switch. Simlar to the one you should already have hooked up to the back of the converter.

For it to be legal (and safe), you MUST use an rpm activated switch (i.e. safety cutout) for the LPG solenoids. This is to cut fuel if you have an accident. All professionally installed LPG setups will have a device to do this already, in tickford models the tickford gas computer (not the EEC) handles this.

Sorry mate but your wrong.

this is the rule regarding electrically operated lp gas lock offs.

To satisfy AS/NZS 1452: 1999 requirements,
Three methods can be used to control electrically operated lp gas lock offs.

* Vacuum operated micro switch

* Oil pressure activated micro switch

* Electronically controlled device.

The third on the list refers to using the ecu to turn off the lp gas lock off in case of the engine stalling or the ignition being on but the engine not running.

This is the requirement; the lp gas lock off needs to be able to stop the flow of gas to the vaporizer if the engine stalls (that would included and accident :wink: ) or if the ignition is on but the engine not running. Basically so that there is never any gas flow out of the vaporizer that the engine would not burn/use.

Mate this stuff is important, you should never tell people this is the rules when there not! it could end up having legal implications.

Regards
FLASH.

wonder if it would be possible to use the Tach out or CMP/CKP sensor in some way?

Tach is possible - thats old school gas lock control.

But the ECU has a LPG Solenoid Output - use that! It will turn the Gas on and off for you when needed
