Hey dude --- Nice to see all the blue and black...! I reckon this sort of thing looks way better in the flesh than it does on the computer (judging by all the responses I got when I did mine...!)
(Look at bottom picture of this... and compare to your (admittedly EF - AU's are different, but hey - I like your thinking!!!) |

The line you are talking of along passenger dash actually just clips in on the EF / EL dash and I imagine it would be the same on the AU... I did all of mine by having two cars and pulling the entire dash out of one, painting and chopping and changing and then putting it back into car along with climate control conversion. You could possibly pull it out the front by getting a screw driver or something under it and levering. Then again, I had a little trouble even with the dash out as you don't want to mark it or ruin it. Seem to remember it being stuck with some double sided selotape type stuff too, so start at one end... Honestly will end up 100% more professional if you can get it out, paint the whole thing, and put it back in.
I'd really suggest getting a different gear knob. I used a manual one and chopped the gear shaft down about 15mm and then put slots to to suit the manual grub screws to slide up and down...... It doesn't really matter that much though - you can get away with having the manual knob screwed on tight, as long as you remember not to put the car into REVERSE or PARK whilst driving forwards.... Although, so saying that, the computer in the car kind of limits any damage in this regard anyway (opening up a can of worms with that statement..,!!) |

Fair call dude. I'm more of the "just go and try it" sort of person myself. Once I start, I find out all the little pitfalls and do my best to do a good job regardless.
The gearknob thing I got was pretty cheap second hand, have an EBAY browsing session... See - that's an example of me doing things backwards --- I now have a manual gearbox to put in under the gearknob... . |

hahaha fair enough just tried to wedge out that grey strip and it got me wondering if your car had a passenger side air bag because i think it is related to mine in my car if so i may have to just mask aroiund it.
removing it would make life easy though.... back to the drawing board i guess haha

The dash spear is held on by 4 nuts... easiest to remove the panel underneath it but it is real easy to break the clips.... in mine I just siliconed it back in place (no airbag) not sure how the airbag ones clip in place.....
Cluster is the easiest of any falcons.... remove 2 srews... put a screw drivier in the hole and make the top tilt down slightly and pull towards you or take off the fuse panel and insert frigging long srewdriver behind the cluster and push forward. heater issue is there is a cable that runs to the drivers side of the centre console towards the firewall.... Hope this helps

IT has been a few days since i posted ast and not much progress has been made due to lack of money (damn insurance and rego)
next month will be much better though. I went to the wreckers and found series 2 center air vents this is good as they are black paid 6 bucks for them also got a spaer gear stick and ashtrey to play with modifications with out ucking up my own once pull together the money for myhead unit i can then wire up all my lights at once. yay for me The only thing that is letting down my dash (well i think) ia the grey aircon buttons and i can really paint them black or it wll look weird any ideas?
