Hey,
My mate has a supercharged AU XR8 with a T5 behind it, he keeps on wrecking clutches and wants to change it to an auto. He wants to put a tuff C4 behind it just got a few questions about the conversion. Is the bellhousing on the C4 a straight bolt-up to an injected windsor? Flexplate, could we use one from an older windsor? Any help would be great, cheers |

all the same, even the clevo auto flex plate will bolt on.
And the bellhousing will bolt straight up too, i suppose the only issue is starter motor location will be on the other side, im not sure how the steering rack or headers like them being there lol

the balance could be different between early and late motors. it definately is for manuals, i have just put an extreme cro moly lightened fly wheel and 450hp ba clutch into my 67 xr fairmont, the flywheel comes with 2 counterweights, 1 for early motors 1 for late. i would ring a performance trans place and ask them first

as far as i know that ford hasn't or didn't change the rear of the windsor (or didn't change much) most windsor / clevo regardless from era, but has he been to a local preformance shop, or thought about upgrading his clutch/pressure plate/flywheel to handle it. how much power is geting put out (the real amount not a guess)

The flexplates counter weights are different. 28oz from memory with the EFI 5.0 and 52oz with the old carby 302.
It will physically bolt up but the starter will be on the wrong side. Dellow automotive do make a bellhousing for a C4 to EFI windsor with the starter motor on the left hand side. Standard EFI Windsor flexplate will work correctly when paired up to a Cleveland Torque convertor. Hope this helps.

hey,
thanks everyone for your help. Yeh its been rebuilt with a tougher bottom end and a decent cam (unsure of specs brought car already bombed-up, sounds very lumpy) vortech V2 supercharger, twin 3 inch, motec M48... 403hp at the wheels. The T5 is standard but its got an excedy heavy duty clutch kit which is wrecked. cheers |
