I remember reading somewhere that the ba trans doesn't need to get serviced for 100k is this true? and also just wondering if it is worth servicing mine as the car now has 126k although the car is still smooth, i rekon it could be smoother, could it just need an oil change?
any places any1 can recomend in adelaide?

Ford reckons that the oil will last the life of the transmission - How long is the life of a transmission? - It has to be serviced every 12 months or 20K & it will last a long time. How long would the engine last if you only changed the oil & filter every 100K - Not very long!
That is one of the reasons they deleted the auto dipsticks from late EF's - on + they don't mention trans servicing in the owners manual servicing schedule,But it says to change brake fluid, change p/steering oil, service A/C etc. |

Like he said^^^^^^^^^^^. The oil does get contaminated with clutch & band lining material, as well as metal from parts wearing in & out.
I think this tranny had about 160K on it, never before serviced.

Those brass pieces are from the heat exchanger in the radiator - put an external cooler & by-pass the radiator completely!

They have needle rollers between the inner pin & the gear, with thin brass washers for the end float clearance. If those washers wear out,The box whines like mad & the pan will be full of ground up cast iron paste. If you show those photos to a radiator reconditioner,He'll tell you what it is.

servicing wont fix any problems, as dirty oil is symptom of damage already done.
its also debatable whether if its a good idea to change/flush the oil in a moderate/high km auto. Has been reported that an auto thats running fine can have the oil changed, then all of a sudden show its age. theory is that all the contaminates in the oil in a worn box act as a friction maker on worn parts and keep gears from slipping. all this is from info ive picked up, please correct me if im wrong !! |

If it is serviced at regular intervals from new - excluding abuse, by all rights it should last a decent amount of time.My brother in law had an EF wagon that he bought new & when he traded it on an AU, It had 398K on it - original trans that was looked after.
Ever heard a transmission that whines loudly but changes with engine RPM's? That is the pump cavitating - being starved of oil because the filter is blocked. If it is changed regularly,That will never happen - It's the same as an engine oil filter. |
