hi guys, im my NL the battery light flickers, and sometimes stays on, i don't know what it could be, my boss at work drove it once, and said it seems like a diode has worn out.

im getting a good 14.2+ all the time, and the voltage never drops, but the light stays on .....

Could it be the alternator? something wrong with it? or the reg inside is stuffed??? i was wondering if i should splice one of the wires that come out the alternator, and run it straight to the battery, I know in my old ED that it had a reg wire that went to the battery ...

any ideas guys???

thankyou

Laticia.

Have you tested the charge rate while the light is on?

Because maybe the reg is dying? although that doesn't explain your voltage meter not moving....

What about the battery light lead? loose connection?

Its the alternator. Had the same issue on my ED.
The light flickers and comes on because at that time the alternator isnt putting out sufficient charge.
The volts guage doesnt drop because that is the battery's voltage. The car is still running off the battery reserve. You will start to see the guage drop after a while slowly as the battery slowly goes flat.............................................................
I had the issue for about a month and ignored it until one day it got a lot worse. The alternator completely died , the light was on all the time and I only just managed to limp the car home.

Well that means the alternator is over charging and its going to kill things with too much voltage - either way go to an auto-elec if you already havent and get them to check it out. It's almost definately the reg now because its not regulating the voltage...too high and too low by what you describe.

As soon as an alternator stops charging the voltage reduces fairly quickly, to at best 12.5V, probably less, especially if you put the headlights on, which would be an even better test.

run a multi meter over the battery while the car is running before you change Alts, can save alot of hassle for nothing
