Well I finally finished frabicating a box for my sub but now I'm stuck with how to get it working....
I hooked it all up, switched it on and the amp turned on but the sub wasn't doing anything. So then I looked at the manual for the amp and set all the settings to the way it suggested


The sub doesn't do anything until its on full gain, When i turn the Gain to Full the sub then 'Plays violently' but not in correspondence with the song itself.

Any Ideas how to fix it?

how have you hooked up the RCA cables? Does the headunit only have one pair of outputs (L+R) or does it have an extra output for Sub, or is the single output switchable between sub & speaker?

Are the fade controls on the headunit set to "0"

RCA cables are hooked up to the Sub Outputs on the Headunit. Fade is on 0

have you tried turning up the subwoofer settings in the headunit, or if all else fails, the bass settings for the speakers?

So the sub doesnt work at all, then abruptly starts working when at full gain on the amp?

i know im stating the obvious but i have to ask!!

Under "downloads & support" is a downloadable instruction manual. Page 26 is for subwoofer controls in the headunit

I kind of... maybe forgot to plug in the RCAs on the Headunit.....
By which of course I mean, someone must of broke into my car yesterday and pulled apart my dash and unplugged the RCAs, and then put the dash back together.....

Well anyway... thats enough of the blame game. It's all working now :D:D
Just have to wait for the sealant and fiberglass to finish curing and I can install the sub in the box and get the doof doof going.

Btw, is it bad to use a 200W amp on 150W sub?

set the gain to the music you most like listening too. Or maybe to a song which has the most bass, then turn your headunit up to the max setting before speaker distortion, and then set the amp gain just below sub distortion

No, it should be fine. Better to have a more powerful amp powering a slightly less power used sub...mainly because you turn the gain down to compensate for the lack of power required for the sub.

The way I tuned my speakers was to first putting the gain on the amps all the way to the minimum. Then I turn the head unit up to max volume with the equalizer set to normal (all frequency flat and even) with LOUD turned off and then playing a genre of songs which I listen to. Fade to the front and tune the front speakers by putting the gain up until speakers distort...and then back away a little. Fade speakers to the rear (have sub out on OFF for speakers) and repeat as for the front speakers. Then set fade to 0 and adjust fade forward for front stage. Once all set, I turn the subs back on and increase the gain up slowly until you find your sweet spot of bass to treble...I prefer to have my subs not drown out the speakers.

Also I have a bass booster for my subs, so I set the booster to half way while adjusting the subs...that way if I want to be coolio at some point listening to RnB with heaps of bass, I can turn it up accordingly ...and if I have a headache, I can always turn the bass down.
