{USERNAME} wrote: Hey matt, yer he built that ,people go on and on about a dart block,i have see some pics of a windsor block splitting down the middel but that has never bothered me i see it as if you got a good tune then the motor wont lean out and sould not split,im running 435rwhp on a stock bottem end with 300,000km on it and evry one jumps up and down on why i dont run a dart block ,dont see the point done 70.000km since the blower went on and never had any major problems
Thats a sick capri, did your mechanic build that as well??? He has to be running a mexican or pre roller block The funny thing is that i know 3 engines builders making over 550hp with a 302 roller block and reving past 6000rpm and apparently thats there limit and should be blowing up. These engines have been running for some time now as well so figure that???

My parts list came to 16k so far, and there are still a lot of little bits and peices to get. I have no fasteners for assembly, or the girdle/oil pump/cam/gaskets/injectors etc. They may be only small hings but they all add up. Then there is machining and tuning. This is an EFI motor not carby. Hell i still need a 100mm TB.My motor would safely make 1000hp, thats where the money has/is going. I could get a CHP 427 for 16kUS assembled, but it is only rated to 550hp. You pays your money and you gets what you pay for.
Cheers Brett

Well im talking from carby to sump 21k so say less carby and manifold is 20k becuz im not sure what carby or manifold he has.
if its 27k including intake, injectors, TB, fuel rail, ecu and the rest of it then yes 27k no problem at all LOL Building a solid engine is just 1 hurdle but then if u go injection its another big hurdle and a expensive 1 as well. For a all out injection setup can cost up to 8k compared to a carby setup which you can get good gear for under 2k.

I know that Capri.. It was built by James at Cylinder
Heads Dynamic..In Penrith.. Its not making extreme power levels.. My motor was assembled by the same guys that built my engine.. It was my engine etc that this engine was built around.. It has std ported inlet with boxed upper.. Runs Powerglide, Motec w2a 2 step etc.. No matter which block you use you STILL have to do the same carefull machine work.. So there is sweet bugger all between them in cost..Except the price for decent block.. Btw its NOT the klrs that makes an engine strong .. Its the power levels and the abuse it can handle.. The above two piece block came from here... http://www.turbomustangs.com/stockblock.php Sheesh I had an 1300 Escort that did 180,000 miles but it doesn't make it a strong motor!! Over 500 h.p its not a matter of if but when!! 347 and blown is looking for trouble especially if your after good ET !!.. Its not the rotating assembly thats the weak point in a 5.0.. Its the block!! Spend all the $$ in world on roatating assembly and install in std block.. It won't last much longer on high power levels.. Maybe with Honda titanium rods etc?? Which are over $1500 for 4...

Exactly my point different parts cost different amounts....You're the one trying to compare apples with oranges. Just because your mate paid X dollars for Y power you can't compare it to another engine. |

{USERNAME} wrote: this twin turbo capri is running a 4 bolt main 347 stroker(stock windsor block)putting out 600rwhp and running a 9.30et ,so been in a falcon you may get in the low to mid 10s with the right stuff,i know when the time comes i wont be spending the 3grand on a dart block Yes but what stock windsor block? Early blocks and mexican blocks are much stronger and are the only ones that have enough meat in the main webs for a 4 bolt conversion and even then it's marginal. I would use an early block or spring for a dart block even if I was making only 500hp because in the end it's cheap insurance. The choice is $3-$4K now or $10K later. |

{USERNAME} wrote: How much max horse power can u get out of a 5.0 winsdor block strocked to 347, (600-700 hpr?)? Reliably, 450-500hp at the flywheel... There are cases of individuals making more for some time, but they are the exception rather than the norm. {USERNAME} wrote: Will a 5.0 windsor block make it in the nines??? or are we hoping for too much?? and would the factory manifold be sufficient or not? (super charcher going on and told factory manifold ok ). If you had a small dragster you could do it... But to get a 3000+lb street based chassis into the 9s needs over 600hp at the flywheel. Which you won't achieve from a stock 5.0L block and manifold regardless of how much boost you try and shove down its neck. {USERNAME} wrote: Also what would you need to get in the nines down the quarter?? For starters a full 6 point cage, ANDRA tech inspection, all relevant safety equipment. Then 600+ hp, race converter, transmission most likely with a transbrake, 9" with appropriate gearing, modified suspension (4 link or ladder bar) a set of slicks or large Street Radials... Oh and a large bucket of money. {USERNAME} wrote: Is engine builder talkin sh!t or not?? Facts appreciated. If he is the one who has told you that a stock 5.0L block with a blower will make 600-700hp and run nines then yes he is talking sh!t.

my 347 makes 316hp at the wheels with 600nM at the flywheel. Adequate for a baby-spec 347
