Hi all, I've had my pacies for about 2 years now and they seem to be losing their shine. They were ceramic coated by Pacemaker when they arrived but even then it wasn't that siny but now they're quite dull and I'm just wondering if this is the norm with ceramic coated headers.
Any thoughts? |

never seen any shiny 'Pacemakers'
they've all got that dull pascal ceramic blue look.

His are ceramic coated though don't think they're blue. They look like they're polished.

Yes this is a prety normal thing to happen, unless you pay for the top grade ceramic coating, which pacemaker don't do. Ceramic coating will usually have that dull alluminium look to it, it is only the top grade stuff that lokks like chrome and stays looking like chrome. The reason they go dull is because they have been heated above the maximum working temperature of the coating, burnouts maybe????? As soon as they cool from being over haeted they will go dull. This will not have a huge affect on the performance of the coating, it is not really worth recoating them unless you want to fork out for the top quality stuff so they stay shinny which is around twice the price and has alot higher maximum working temp.

Oh righto then. I'll just have to get used to dull. But anyways, they serve they're purpose well. As for heating them above maximum working temp of the coating, I haven't been doing any burnouts at all (seriously!) and it really was only after a month that I noticed them dulling quite a bit, but only bothered complaining about them now.
The only other thing is skidpan but that was last week  Anyway heres a pic. hope it works. well, the image didnt work so just look in my gallery for what i mean. |

Are they the 4490's or 4495's..?

I'm going to get it ceramic coated by some guys in Castlemain...forget what the company is called, supposedly they do a great job  .If you're worried about shine, just get a heat shield made out of stainless steel. Get 2 pieces of made up so that one can stack on the other, make one out of stainless steel and the other out of steel (to cut costs) and then sandwhich some heat soaking material between the two steel plates and you'll have yourself a nice looking and working heat shield  phong =P~
