This is in NSW so laws will apply.I want to know if any one has done this or know of anyone.I want to replace my 2 front seats with racing style seats and also remove the rear bench style seat and replace it with 2 racing style seats which are matching the front 2.So also cutting the seating capacity back to 4 persons.
What has to be done to keep it legal and can it be engineered?? I seen this done in a turbo EB falcon sedan (DRYVBY/Jake Tran's). Cheers Bryan

As far as i'm aware (for QLD, should be similar down there) the seating capacity can be changed on engineers approval, as long as all mountings are up to his standard, and seats are adr approved, also mod plate be applied. Seeing your in nsw you should nt have much problem, you lucky a**'s are allowed to do everything .
Best talk with an engineer for a definate, they can differ from one to another.

With the front seats i investigated this as i ran sport seats in the EB for a few months.
The seat MUST ADR Approved and should have a tag or something saying so, MUST have ADR approved brackets / adaptors and must be bolted to OEM rails. that does not require an engineers cert. i got no idea with the rear, but i have seen this many atime before from VLs to ELs making it a 4 seater and placing a centre console or sound system in the middle were the "5th" seat would be.

Thanks for the input guys, that was my idea to also put a centre consule all the way from front to back.
With my front seats im going to mod my original seat rails to mate to the seats that i will be choosing.Just trying to get more info before i get right into it. Cheers Bryan

So would that mean if you take the feet off a set of rails on a 98 lux, and put the rail feet on a set of xr seat rails with ba xr seats, It'd be legal without an engineer cert?

Well effectively where not using an adapter as the feet line up with the rails where just grinding the rivets out put a hi tensile bolt in and possibly a little weld then bolting straight in.
Oh and yes a little wiring obviously. Or does that mean where meant to use the hilux rails, not the BA ones with out a cert?
