I hear that there are different regulators on the various 4.0 engines - looking to upgrade mine on the EF if necessary since I now have a Tickford head and apparently XR6 models had a higher pressure reg.
If it's worth doing, which is the best one to use, and where can I get one?

I'm sure someone will say "do a search".
Bursons quoted me $85 for a 300kPa XR6 fuel reg to fit the EF/EL. I bought a seperate adjustable fuel reg and replaced the factory EL fuel reg to fit a 90 degree BSP elbow & barb. If you've got an XR6 (or bigger) cam, head & XR6 ECU, then the XR6 fuel reg will be what you need. Or, are you planning to go forced induction?

I would only suggest using the Tickford 300KPA reg if you have the Ticky ECU to take advantage of it properly. Falcons run rich anyway, so without the proper mapping it might not work as you expect.

waste of time with bigger fuel reg
before my car was dyno tuned, with a large cam and making 150rwkw untuned the afr's were in the low 12's.... still too rich!! |

Well, you know, the search thing - it still doesn't work right!
Anyway, I do have the Tickford ECU and pretty much all of the Ticky gear as well as 3" intake and a good exhaust. I have no plans for forced induction but will likely fit a bigger cam and TB as soon as budget allows. I'd like to grab some AU injectors if I can find some too. Someone was saying a while ago that it's hard to find a 300kpa reg - ? They don't have Bursons here in Perth as far as I know. Coventry's don't stock them.

Well, then if you have all the gear, I say get one.
I found that it made a slight difference. Made the engine feel more 'solid' throughout the rev range. BenJ

the standard tickford fuel reg is good up to around 175rwkw with stock injectors, then by putting an adjustable reg on with the standard injectors and bumping fuel pressure up to arouind 52 psi the system is good for around 185 -190rwkw. I would say get an adjustable reg if you want to get it tuned, if not get the tickford reg.

o i have a spare 300 kpa tickford reg too. The reg is used but worked fine when i took it off 6 months ago. I also have some stock injectors that have been hi flowed, incresed the flow by 10% they are spanky never got used too small for me Paid $200 for the 6 of them. PM me if you are interested and i will get back to you.

the injectors in the standard EF falcon are the same as those in a EF XR6, it is only the reg that is different. Standard reg is 280Kpa xr6 is 300Kpa

Im just using a AU one, with AU injectors, I think its 280kps runs a lot smoother with the AU fuel rail setup.

But i guess your intent on forcing more fuel in regardless, so good luck with it |

So the Tickford cars were specified with an uprated regulator for no reason?

The ECU will adjust fuel trims anyway. Your Tickford ECU with standard reg is already opening the injectors longer to get more fuel in due to what it's learnt
You put a 300kpa reg in, it'll run rich for a week or so, then go right back to where you are now. Save the money from the reg, put new sensors through it and get the injectors cleaned. Probably make more of a difference!
