G'day Guys

I've recently bought a 97' EL XR6, which was fitted with an alarm.
and for some unknown reason the alarm went off, twice for no reason at all

I checked all the doors and the boot to see if was closed and even checked to see if there was anything sticking out from the doors but nothing, and yet it went off

Now I was wondering whether the EL's came out with a stock alarm or was there a ford alarm around at the time that coud be fitted to an EL?

OR

Would that alarm have to have been an after market alarm?

reason im asking is that I dont have a manual for the alarm at all.

Any input will be helpful

Cheers

If you don't have anything no manuals nor idea about how its currently wired up and will be difficult to try and work out whats going on - could be a bad connection, dodgy ground, aftermarket alarm could be fitted with external sensors that are being tripped for one reason or another...might be on to seek local professional advise...some places will check it out for free and you only pay if any works would be required like removing that alarm.

There was a factory fit alarm in the ED/EF/EL range. Quickest way to tell it is if the siren is mounted on the drivers shock tower, and has a nice bracket holding it that is held down by 2 shock tower bolts. Plus the siren has a Ford logo on it, near the keyhole from memory.

If it is that, a few people here can tell you a bit about it.

The other way to tell is the control box is in the A pillar, behind the drivers kick panel. Small black box a bit bigger than a ciggie pack.
