As the title states, what are the differences between each series AU motor (1,2,3)if any.

series once ecu and wiring loom is different so Ive been told recently. how it differs Im not yet aware.

a few of the plugs in the looms are different. Coil pack has different plugs also.

ive been told that some series one come with the old smartlock, and the updates with smartshield, which is required if you are going to be putting series one ecu and loom in a series two.

afaik the mechanical/internals are the same..
i had heard that the series 3 was suposed to be stronger?
but i dont think so!!....

cant work out why but there is a difference with the listed spark plugs through the au series

Auto 2 went to platnum or iridium plugs across the range and the xr6 plugs projected further

its got me wondering why they used different plugs aswell..
at the moment im using the el xr6 iridium plugs in my series 3 vct engine and its fine..
sometimes there are certain methods to fords madness..lol

i was told they went to a bigger sparkplug gap due to the larger coil pack, would explain your part no change
