the EDs are not back lite? so would just involve a blue light evenly shining on the cluster front...

The numbers illuminate from the rear but the needles don't so to see the needles the light travels (through means of refraction)(actually very clever for the time) along plastic runners accross the top of the cluster and then hits the end and turns back on itself at an angle shinning out fron the top of the cluster onto the front of the dials to show the needles... (seen by those blue strips along the top)... at drivers height you can't see them... its only when you get low enough they are there...

because non white light makes them very hard to see at night (i know this because i had blue leds in them) oh and this stage is very simple and cheap... just 4 blue leds... i found a guy on ebay who made me white faces with blue numbers (as the factory ones light up yellow and with a different coloured ie blue led... the blue light wont travel through the yellow numbers and as such don't light up) and this enabled me to use white leds to have white dials at night and the numbers now light up blue...

not dark here but you get the idea of what happens... when the leds are off the blue is dark enough that it looks like black numbers during the day... i like them... 8-)

and these are more complicated and more cost... 4 leds plus faces... about 80 bucks for the faces i think i paid... and you have to not only take the cluster out but take the front off it (9 torx head screws) and remove the needles (remember where the rest before you remove them coz they will need to go back so they still read right) and the there are two screws to hold each face for each needle on...

hope this helps...

Cheers,
Tim

Hello again...

yes most certainly...

this is pretty much it... although please note... that as its dark the camera shutter speed is slower and these appear a little brighter than they actually are...

papa smurf... yes have seen this guy before but he is way too dear... my brother got some off this guy:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Falcon-Fair ... m153.l1262

weren't too bad... were a tad big on the speedo one and had to trim it a bit to get it back together...

however with these guys... as they make them... you can request custom logos and colours and styles (usually costs a little extra i think my brothers were $5 per logo... my customising was free although that guy doesn't do them anymore, or at least i have never seen him again on ebay anyway)...

and just some white leds and you get the white faces (not yellow like they light up with standard bulbs) and shine through the numbers giving whatever colour you want...

not only does it make them easier to see day and night also makes them look a little different and a little sporty...

and if you ever get sick of them you can sell on ebay already in the cluster some i have seen go for no short or 130 bucks maybe more...

hope this gives some inspiration...

Cheers,
Tim
