Hey Guys after trolling through different sections of the forums I have only managed to find one post on shift kits. This was great info, however it states that for an EL (which is what I'm working with) the ECU pin outs are different from those on the EF.
So as the search button still doesn't bloody work ! Can you please provide me with any links that help me with this problem... Do you have any more docos about shift kits etc... The post that I was looking at was : fordmods-technical-documents-diy-f38/shift-kits-t36009.html Cheers |

EF and EL had different ECU's therefore different pinouts

Quote: Just had a look at the diagram for El's. It looks exactly the same, except pin 71 is actually pin 57, and pin 81 is pin 38. Other than that it should use the same resistors and the same setup. Someone else should be able to confirm this though if they have a shiftkit on their EL? That thread also has a lot of useful info about changing resistor values to alter the firmness of the shift Hopefully that helps mate |

Just another question guys...
After looking through all the shift kit info from here and there... i just want a simple answer. Am i right in saying that when i install it, does it mean the gears change at a later rev, similar to what happens when i turn off the econ switch? What would happen if i was running the both econ off and the shift kit on.. would it result in a much later gear change? And the purpose is to make the gear shifts firmer yes? Lastly what damage does this do the petrol consumption, does it increase the k's i get per tank or reduce it?? Thanks heaps. |

All i know is that it increases the firmness of the shifts and reduces shifting time between gear changes. You know how the BTR's kinda just slip into gear? The shiftkit reduces the slipping between gear changes, and quickens up the gear chnage process a bit, some people say that between gear changes with shiftkit on it will chirp the tyres due to the change being so quick. It may also be true the shiftkit when enabled may honld the gears a little longer depending on throttle position i.e how much gas you're giving it due to increased line pressure but thats my opinion and some other have said the same on here and other forums. I wouldnt think it would effect you economy much though, its just a shifting mod.

try build the potentiometer one instead of the switch (i cant remember if its in that shiftkit thread as well).
after building my switch one I now wish i built the other (only reason is the 1st-2nd shift is a bit too harsh for my liking, wouldve been good to be able to tweak the shifts a bit) other option (which is also explained in the thread is to use slightly different resistors) though apart from from that one point, its one of my favourite mods. |

Ok, back again!
Hoping this is the last bit of info needed... I am going to attempt to build the shift kit with a potentiometer but need to know if anyone is aware of to what place sells them. Im looking for a 10 WATT, 5.6 ohm. I was thinking jay car or d**k ... but havent checked them yet. Does anyone know if they are available there? Or if you have seen any threads on here that show a person who has built the kit with a potentiometer and they have stated were they got theirs from. Thanks guys |

I would say Jaycar should be your first option. Try looking at their online site to see if they have the components your looking for. Or give them a call to confirm.
The one your going to build seems like the way to go. I might look into it myself.

Yeah I will drop into Jay cars tomorrow and see what they have in stock...
If you are interested in the shift kit, have a read of the link that KWIKXR provided. Has some really good info in it and neds did a great job with it. Once I have it made up ill give it a go and let you guys know how it went, hopefully I can have it done soon ♦ |

I made one up today and installed it - works really good. Under light acceleration you can feel it shift much faster but its definitely not uncomfortable, but when you floor it ... the gear shifts are fast and solid (a good solid )
I used a 18ohm resistor and 1ohm resistor (EBII) ..and if anybody isnt confident with their soldering skills or cant find the parts - im more that happy to make some up and send them out. I work at an auto electrician so its no troubles at all, they'd probably be around $20-30.

Ok, built one today and works great. A fantastic little mod that is worth such little dough !
I also built it with a potentiometer so the resistance can be varied |
