Hey guys

recently ive noticed a knock in the rear of the car when cornering doing around 20 -30kph. I hear this knock everytime i turn into my street and my dads ute does this to so this might help him too . I have a gregorys manual and it says to execute 5 left and right hand turns at 10kph and if theres chatter in the back its the diff and when i did this test it knocked once. Is this the diff?? also i get a clunk when accelerating and decelerating is this the diff aswell or the unis??? so many little problems with this car its really starting to s**t me. Its an ef fairmont too by the way.

I had side ways movement in my diff, not long ago. The noise only ocurred when I was cornering slowly or turning into a car spot.

Ford overhaulled the diff, it was still under warranty, but the cost sheet on my invoice said $250.00 (though I didnt pay that obviousely). Havent heard the noise since. I cant be sure that yours is a diff problem though.

Need more explanation on what is happening, how and what kind of noise exactly.

It sounds like waht you described. Its weird it mainly happens at lower speeds. The sound is like a knock just one knock.

Make sure all you suspension bolts are tightened up ... might just knock when the weight shifts during cornering ... might be time for new bushes maybe.

My EF has done this since i bought it, coming out of round abouts or going up a tight range road, it knocks in the back every now and then, not consistently though. We had it looked at when we last had the car serviced, and they couldnt find any movement in the shocks, axels hubs or anything in the back really.



When i get my suspension looked at soon, i will get them to check the back for me

Well Uni-joints are easy enough to check physically but I'd like to ask something first. When you get this clunking sound, is it when you've been accelerating and you've just quickly removed your foot from the pedal? If so then your diff might be the cause in a high km car.
