what types of tools are required. ? what bits and piecs and parts are required. ? is it worth replacing the heater core at the same time. ? is it worth replacing the coolent in the radiator system. ? what is the average time to romove the dash, replace the evaporator, and have the dash back in. ? and what hints, tips, tricks can people give me to make the job a little easyer. ?

what types of tools are required. ?
There are no SPECIAL tools required, to normal tools will do the job. A set of Ratchet spanners will make things a lot easier though. Oh and get a permanent marker. what bits and piecs and parts are required. ? The replacement evaporator. is it worth replacing the heater core at the same time. ? Yes, it is such a b**ch of a job, you may as well do it at the same time. But, if you don't have any issues with your current one, and don't bend the end of the pipes that poke through the firewall, you can reuse the old one. is it worth replacing the coolent in the radiator system. ? You will need to drain the water anyway, so yes. what is the average time to romove the dash, replace the evaporator, and have the dash back in. ? Some will say it can be done in a day. Having had the heater box out myself, I would allow two full days, and then if you get it done quicker, great. and what hints, tips, tricks can people give me to make the job a little easyer. ? Use the permanent marker and number/letter all of the plugs as you undo them. It will be a lot easier when you go to plug it all back in. I hope your car is a six, as if it is an eight I don't see how you could get to all the heater box nuts along the firewall. And if you don't already own a Gregorys, or Max Ellerys or similar, go and buy one now. BenJ

I'll pst it the easy way,
-Tie it to another car, use other car to tear dash out -Replace dash with EF/L dash. Just kidding, do what benj said.

Technician often used the L-shaped ice pick to loosen the gasket without damage to the headliner or vinyl. Let an expert do it. |

If it is an 8, then the upper of the intake manifold will need to be removed. It can be done with out removing it by using ratchet spanneds, but is a pain to reinstall.

I replaced evaporator recently (last month) on me LTD DC V8- the quote was $590 for all, including new evaporator fitted, new reciver dryer, "o"-rings, die agent, compressor oil and regassing. My main reason (excluding money ) was not to allow workshop to pull out dash because of additional equipment installed.
