Why would u use an AU head gasket for an EL, are they less prone to leaking?
how well do they fit?
ive got an EL with a leaking head gasket as well just lookin for a bit of advice thanks mate

AU gaskets are thinner and therefore can raise the comp ratio

AU gaskets are made up of 3 layers of metal which are stronger then composite ones you get for E-series.

AU gaskets will also increase compression as someone has mentioned, but if you are not there for POWAH, then it wouldn't really bother you.

AU gasket will last you longer over an E-series composite gasket...I don't think there are many E-series out there that actually still have the original head gasket.

Just to play the Devil's Advocate.... a local cylinder head reconditioner said he's had complaints about the AU metal gaskets. Apparently, they don't seal well when the head and/or deck aren't machined prior to installation. He recommends Dura Tec gaskets instead. The last head gasket I had was a MonoTorque & that was still OK after 160,000k (till I put a modified head on).

In spite of that, I haven't heard any negative feedback on this site about AU metal gaskets.

yeah deck surface has to be very well cleaned. the gasket is less tolerant to imperfections than regular gaskets

also they do not tolerate poor cooling system maintenance

AU MLS gaskets for the win.

I wouldn't use ANY non-multi layer gasket, its all about expansion.

All these cars that go to mechanics that slap in a $50vrs kit, only come back within 100,000k's.

Downside with AU gaskets are the compression raising. Good for some, bad for others.

You can expect some pinking if you've machined the head a few times.
