Hi All
I am hopefully going to be getting a Falcon AU 2, I have had a look over the car and it all looks clean and tidy, it has done 262,000 Kms most have been country by the looks as there is a lot of red dust around the door sills. is there anything I should look for that are common problems, it starts fine from cold and hot, and does not blow smoke, does not pull to one side so tracking should be OK. Thanks for any assistance |

one thing would be the auto. they are a sealed unit, with no dipstik to check the fluid. also they were not included in ford factory servicing, so if its previous owners never went out and had a service done theres a good chance that its on origional oil and filter. mine did 170,000ks on its factory oil and filter, and needs replacing.
also check the seal and bush at the rear extension housing, aparently quite common for them to wear out causing a loss of fluid.

rust where the boot struts attach, both outside and inside the boot.
tail shaft bush is common to all falcons. oil leaks from the main cap cross bolts. (side of the sump) |

If you do get it, FLUSH OUT THE BRAKE FLUID. Most people never do and end up with sludge through the braking system.

Thanks for all the advice, there is a little surface rust around one of the boot struts but it seems very minor at the moment, When I pick it up in a couple of weeks I can tidy it up, I think.
The auto box shifts fine, but will get this done to be on the safe side. all the brakes are healthy at the moment but with my driving will need replacing I will do that then. The current owner is still using it and I have checked for any signs of oil or it buring oil but it all seems OK. |

Check for rust under the rubbers at the top corners of the windscreen.

if it doesnt have a trans cooler, for peace of mind, fit a hd cooler to help your trans live longer. about $350 fitted. heat and trans fluid dont mix.
