My 96 EL auto lever slopps from side to side, I've tired tightening the nut up as tight as I dare and it still moves has anyone been able to slove this problem, is there a bush to replace?

Not sure on whether it will solve the problem but i assume it would, there's a hard plastic bush that crack up etc. in there, you could try replace it, although I couldn't guess where you'd get one, maybe ford if your lucky.

Another suggestion is to try some Teflon tape to take up the slack. If that doesn't fix it, you may have to make a trip to the local wreckers for another one. They don't cost much. Or, keep an eye out for the members wrecking EF & ELs on this site.

got the two bushes from Ford, under $10, weak looking plastic ones.
1/2 hour later all the sideways slop is gone, thanks for the info, another happy fordmods customer |

Mine took a bit longer than half hour, heheh. I undid the housing screws and it wouldnt come out, so I got under the car to check for any other bolts, after a bit of headscratching, I tried to rip out the housing again, and with a bit more force it came out -- It was also glued down and the glue was playing mind games with me.

Yeah mine was glued down also, but not as well as yours by the sound of it.
Certinly makes a differance. |

there was no sight of the second original bush anywhere - it had completely disintegrated and broken away. I guess 13 year old parts do that
