Had a tapping that would start when engine started and go away, so I changed them all, now a few tap real loud, what do u fellas reckon?, cam lobes, lazy spring, crap tappets. I let it run for quite sum time and no change.

So you changed all of what exactly? Theres more than 1 part...
What oil are you running? And did you change that before you changed all of 'them'?

Lol i was just trying to figure that one out too. What exactly did you replace? Im guessing you replaced the HLA's? (lifters/tappets or whatever people wanna call them)

But we need to know what you changed first :wink:

Guesses as to what he changed?

The missus suggested paint, tyres and shock absorbers.

I'm going to try injectors, spark plugs and tappets.

What are tappets? Aren't they the bits that go "tap tap tappity tap"???

MAYBE by changing "all of them" he changed the 30w and the 40? :lol:

Well if that was the problem in the first place and you replaced the lifters then they are probably just taking their time to pump up with oil.

I know when i took my lifters out and cleaned them and put them all back they tapped on first startup like nothing ive ever heard before. It was running real rough at first. All of them were tapping so loud it sounded so bad i thought it snapped a rocker or something :lol:.

So i just gradually increased the revs to about 2.5-3k for a few minutes (bet the neighbours loved that) just to bleed the lifters out and it was all good. You'll hear them start to get quieter until all the noise is gone. Assuming thats the tapping your experiencing right now.

When you changed them, did you place the shims in the right way? pushed the tappets all the way in so that the retainers sat in the groove? also cleaned out the tappet housing in the arm to remove all broken old retainers?

Also an oil change might help as well as krisisdog suggested.

phong =P~
