doesnt matter how the aux gear is aligned...
did u take the dizzy out? sounds like the hex drive shaft is missing or no engaged properly... the aus gear drives thes dizzy which drives the oil pump

it does matter how its aligned when its eating into the block, it doesnt have a dizzy its an ef, not sure if the bolt has been sheared off to cause this either

i have no idea why it would be "eating into the block" - how do u know that? have u got the front of the motor dissasembled? from the start what happend when u were installing the tensioner

to get to the aux shaft you need to remove the harmonic balancer and the timing case cover.
the chain tensioner needs to be released and the dizzy or cas (ef)needs to be removed.. then you can undo the aux gear from the shaft and remove 2 screws from the shaft retaining plate and the shaft can be removed.. but to put the timing cover back on properly you need to either remove the head or drop the sump otherwise the gasket and rubber seal will probably leak and you wont be able to get the lower chain snubber back on.. |

The aux shaft will eat into the block when the cam chain tensioner hasn't been reset properly when a cyl head has been taken off.

could u get a pic
this is not sounding good....if u dont set the tensioner properly it can force massive pressure on the aux shaft....it sounds like its chewed out the bearing surface and also the gear that drives the oil pump.... if this is the case u will need a new motor as the block will be toast....economically cheaper to replace than have the block repaired (if possible)....
