G'day guys,
I've recently bought an EL XR6 auto, only done 166,000 kms, and as far as I can tell its only got an aftermarket cat-back. When I accelerate from 0km/h, I get very low acceleration till about 2200rpm, and then there is a bit of a pull. Now I know that 2200rpm isnt very high, but it takes a very long time to get there. I was wondering whether anyone would be able to tell me why I'm getting very low acceraltion at around 1000 to 2200 rpm, and then a sudden pull from 2200rpm and onwards. Thanks |

check and see if your cat convertor is blocked.

So you recently bought it yes. It wouldnt hurt to give it a major service so then you know its all been done. Replace oil and filter, air filter, plugs and leads, fuel filter, coolant and thermostat, check serpentine belt and if you really want have the trans serviced and replace the diff fluid. Your lack of power may be a clogged fuel filter.

i agree with joolz, best thing to do after getting a car is a good service, esp often overlooked things like fuel filters.

possibly retarded timing, when checking, dont just go by the marks on the harmonic as they can spin the outer ring, pull no1 plug out to double check tdc.

check and make sure your bbm is operating correctly.

Definitely check the timing by earthing out the self test input, starting the car and then waiting two minutes, then you can adjust, should be 0deg btdc on an EL.
Fixed my car right up finaly doing this with my EL ecu in.

id put the money on the timing.
mines the same... starts to pull about 2300-2400 ish. could be a charachteristic of the i6 cam, as every sohc 4.0 six ive ever driven does this. if it wasnt for loosing my job last month the new cam would be in and tuned with timing adjusted to suit.
